This ring was a pre fabricated 925 silver bezel that I bought to specifically encase this faceted Libyan Desert Glass cabochon that I bought years ago. It is a perfect fit!
For quite awhile I was obsessed with this stone, and at the time it was hard to come by raw let alone faceted! With the edges carved in the way that they are, this stone definitely has some flashiness to it when moved around. It also has a lot of those tiny bubbles that this (and stones like Moldavite) are known for! Found on a strewnfield in the Western Egyptian desert, this mainly Lechatelierite mineral has been used in Egyptian antiquities as a gemstone. This impact glass has been disputed amongst scientists to as whether or not it came from an impact at all - mainly because no impact site has been located - yet! It has been dated to be formed around 29 million years ago. Did you know, Tutankhamun's broach has a carved Libyan Desert Glass scarab in it?
This ring is size 6.5 and weighs 4.38 grams.
